iPod burned up USB ports or Motherboard??
by: Support

Hi Robert,

Before you plugged in the iPod your computer was working fine?

Try this -

Disconnect the power by removing the power cord.

You will have to remove the cover to do this step:
remove the battery from it holder, keep it out for at least one minuter.

Put the battery back in the computer. Close case, reconnect the power cable, power up.

Did the system come on and do you get an error on the screen that the time and date need to be set?

If it comes backup, use the appropiate key press to go in to the BIOS and set the time and date.

Let the system start as normal.

Is it operational?

If the answer for both the above after reseting the BIOS to factory defauls does not bring the computer back up then the iPod has damaged the motherboard, more than likely burnt out the on board USB componets.

This has been happening since the iPod came out, your USB port can only supply 1.5 volts and at 1 milliamp. It is not really made to charge batteries with, what you should use is a powered hub to isolate the iPod from the motherboard. That is what I use from my wifes computer/iPod.

HTH...
