Wirelss Router cannot find IP address

by Patsy
(Phila, PA)

Hi,
I have a wireless router that is not connecting. It is trying to repair the local area connection & renew the IP address each time I connect it but it fails. I can connect directly to my modem and get an internet connection but once I interface the wireless router, I cannot connect. I went to http://192.168.0.1 and was making my settings but I think I messed up somehow because it bounced me out and now I cannot even access that page! I've tried 2 different rounters with the same outcome. I even tried a system restore and that didn't help.

Wireless router troubleshooting
by: Support

Hello Patsy,

Most wireless routers have a hard wired port for network connections to a PC (it will be labled LAN), you will need a Cat5e cable to connect the PC to the router.

Then when you are connected you will be able to check the router from the setup page which is web based, that is it uses your browser.

I have only worked with four different makes of routers and all of them the default IP address was 192.168.1.1 so try that.

Do you have the documentation that came with the router?

While you are troubleshooting the wireless connection problem leave the Cat5e cable connected so you can check the router as you work.

Here are three articles on my web site to assist you in troubleshooting the connection.

Hope this helps...
