Windows 7

Yes, Microsoft has released the last beta of the new operating system called Windows 7.

This release is called a Release Candidate. When Microsoft or any software publisher has developed their product to a point where they feel is is almost ready to ship to market they do what is called a Release Candidate (RC). Normally the RC is sent to selected testers. In this case Mircrosoft wanted to test the product in as many different environments as possible, thus releasing the final beta to the public. You can sign up for testing the RC on Microsofts web site.

I have started testing the new Windows 7, you can read about some of my tests here.

Why 7?

Well if we list all the previous versions of Windows workstation you will see why:

Windows (the first version was a flop, black and white only but showed what a fully GUI (Graphics User Interface) could do.

1) Windows 3
2) Windows 98
3) Windows NT
4) Windows 2000
5) Windows XP
6) Vista
7) Windows 7

There were what Microsoft calls interm releases such as Windows 3.1, Windows 98 ME, and some others that were only upgrades, some were quite good, others were failures.

Is it any good?

I my opinion (which may change) the RC is better than Vista, with a little tweaking it could be as good as XP in reliablity and function. (I have a few issues with the interface or lack of that I am working on).
