USB Ports and CD inoperative

Hi I have a laptop and neither the USB sockets work and it wont recognize any cd s but i can hear them going round everything else is fine it boots fine and loads strait away could it be a motherboard problem?

Hello Trevor,

You maybe correct in your findings that the motherboard has failed.

However there is a chance that the BIOS have become corrupt.

Because you can not use the USB Ports or the CD to flash the BIOS you will need to go to the manufactures web site and download the Windows version to flash the BIOS if the manufacture provides one.

Flashiing the BIOS may bring the USB Ports and CD back, if not you have lost nothing but some time, if it does you have saved yourself some time and money.

If the BIOS is not corrupt and Flashing the BIOS did not bring the USB Ports and CD back then you will need to replace the motherboard or buy a new computer, which is more economical in your point of view? Normally when one component on the motherboard fails others soon fail, it is a cascade effect.
