Two hard drives in same computer
by: Support

Hello Krishan,

Let me see if I have your problem correct:

You have two hard drives in your computer. One is the boot drive with Win98, the other has data on it that you need but the Boot Drive with Win98 can not see the drive?

1) When the computer is powered up is the drive running?
2) Looking at the back of the drive does it have the interface cable connected?
3) If there is a cable connected is it connected to the motherboard?
4) If the drive has a cable connected does the cable connect to the other hard drive or CD?
5) Have you went in to the BIOS and checked to see if the computer reconizes the drive?

If it powers up and has the interface cable connected and is not connected to any other drive then the jumper between the power cable and interface cable should be set for CS (Cable Select)

If it is connected to another drive with the interface cable then the other drive should have the jumper set as 'Master' and the other hard drive set as 'Slave'.

If all the above is true then go to the Control Panel, open the Device Manager and check the hard drives, are there two hard drives?

If the drive is still not reconized by the computer and the Operating System - Win98 I am afraid the hard drive may have failed.

Hope this helps...
