by Charles
(Annapolis MO)

Hello,

I have a Toshiba L25 S121 laptop when I press the power on button to start a window session it start loading only to a black screen that says "Load Error! Press a key to Reboot" when I press any key to reboot it does nothing but stays at the black screen.

After I put in the recovery disk through the F12 functional key and get it going and done.It goes back to the black screen that says "load Error!

What can I do to resolve this problem.

Boot problem
by: Support

Hello Charles,

This indeed is a quandrum.

Your hard drive or the storage controller may have failed.

Try this:

Power the computer down, then power it back up, go in to the BIOS settings.

I haven't seen a newer Toshiba BIOS setup so don't know where the drive would be listed.

Find the drive, it may be on the first page (as in IBM or ASUS laptops) or it may be listed under Storage or Advanced.

If it is listed then your drive is being found.

Next check the boot startup sequence.

You should see two or three options:
The hard drive
The CD/DVD drive
Network Boot

Using the instructions change the boot sequence to:
First: CD/DVD drive
Second: Network boot
Third: Hard drive

If the drive controller on the motherboard is or has failed then you will see a line on the screen telling you the computer is trying to boot from the network, most manufactures use a PXE boot.

If the CD/DVD drive spins up and tries to boot then your embedded storage controller is ok.

It should go to the installation splash screen.

If you still get the 'Load Error' I would say your motherboard is having a problem.

Now the question is: Do you want to spend the money to have it repaired?

If it is out of warranty a motherboard will cost almost as much as a new laptop.

Hope this helps ...
