System Restore does not work

by Frank
(Sydney, N S W Australia)

My system restore does not work, when I attempt to take the computer back to a previous configuration, the system goes through the normal procedure and restarts but when the system restore page is displayd it states that it could not return to a previous configuration.
I am running Windows XP Professional and the current Internet Explorer and have tried to do the above a few times with failures all the time can you offer some advice as to how I can get it to work.
Regards,
Frank.

Windows XP System Restore
by: Support

Hello Frank,

Windows XP was the second Operating System to use the System Restore. Sorry but it never did work properly.

Nor does it work with Vista.

In my testing I did get it to work with Windows 7.

You say it goes through all the steps but when the computer is restarted nothing has changed?

Did you try using the 'System Restore' option from the install CD?

When XP first came out the company I worked for at the time tried work arounds to see if they could engineer a way to make it work. Never did find a way to recover the OS reliably.

I am afraid you will need to reinstall the Operating System.

Before you do a reinstall be sure to back up your data.

Hope this helps...
