Switching betwieen two hard disks

by Marc
(Baldwin, NY USA)

My computer has 2 hard drives, C: with 15 BG memory, and D: with 60 GB memory. All the program files, windows and so on are on drive C, which is full, meantime drive D is used as drive to store all folders with my work, and has 58 GB free memory. How would I switch or what should I do to have all program files on D and my storage on C, because i cant use my computer, its very slow and i have warnings that its runing low on memory...

Optimizing a computer
by: Support

Hello Marc,

First things first.

You need to:

Go in to the Temp directroy (if you don't know where it is do a search for Temp) and then delete all the files in there, that may give you a lot of free space.

Next go to My Computer, right click on the C: drive, in the menu select Properties, on the Tools tab select defragment drive button.

It will take a while to defrag the drive, there may not be enough space left if it is a 15 GB dirve.

I assume this is an XP system and there are other things you could do to free up space and make the system faster such as move the Paging File and Temp directory to the D: Drive.

For more information on Optimization and the step by step instructions see page 357 of the Self Computer Repair Unleashed! Manual

Hope this helps ...
