Installing a video card when the embedded video has failed.
by: Support

Hello John,

You can indeed install a new video card in your computer if you have an open slot.

The problem is that the slots you have are PCI not PCIx or PCIe.

That means you will have to find a PCI video card.

If you find one or have a spare one then all you need to do is install the card in a slot. Be sure to power down the computer and remove the power cord before installing the card.

If the embedded video has failed then the new card should display when the computer starts. The default is the embedded video but some BIOS can detect the failure of the embedded video and will switch to a video card in a slot.

If you install the card and don't get a display then check HP's site there may be a keypress to switch from the embedded to the card for video like on a laptop to switch from the laptop display to the external monitor.

Hope this helps...
