SSD and Raid array

by Hereward

I have just installed a Patriot 64Gb SSD as my C:\. How do I optimized my computer with the swap files on other physical drive? Now that my 10k spin dual Raptor raid is redundant, would these be a good suitable option for the swap file and the scratch disk for Photoshop and video editing programs?

Setting up Swap file on Raid Array
by: Support

Hello Hereward,

You have your SSD installed and the Operating System on the SSD?

If so it is a matter of going to My Computer, right click, select Properties, go to the Advanced tab, then Performance, then select Advanced tab.

Click the Change button in the Virtual memory at the bottom of the page.

You should see a list of Drives in the white box, select the drive you want to have the Paing File on, set the size.

Then set the C: drive Paging file to zero.

I do not suggest you use the 'System managed size', the Operating System will create a very large file, instead use this formula:

Take the physical memory, add 1.5 times to that size to make your paging file, say you have 1 gig of memory, then your paging file would be 2.5 gig.

Hope this helps, if you get stuck see this page for illistartions:
