screen keeps getting smaller

by Donna
(Pensacola,FL)

I just got a new screen put in my laptop. One fourth of the picture did not show up. I have had my laptop back for a week. I was jusy playing a game when the screen got half the size. I logged off and back on. At first the screen is o.k.,then when the log in screen comes on it gets small again. Could this mean my ribbon cable is worn? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Video Resolution
by: Support

Hello Donna,

When the video display was changed was it the complete display or only the LCD panel?

Why was it changed? Was the LCD panel damaged?

When the display was changed did they also change out a part behind the display called an 'inverter'?

What it sounds like is when the inverter gets warmed up then it is starting to fail.

Try this -

After loging on right click on some open space and go to 'Propeties' when the window opens go to the 'Settings' tab. At the bottom of the page you will see the 'Screen resolution'. What is it set for? Depending on your display it can be from 1024x800 to 1280x1024.

Also some laptops have the facilty to have multiple displays, the internal display and an external monitor connected to a port on the back or side of the computer.

When you look at the page 'Settings' do you two boxes with the numer 1 and 2? Is one smaller than the other?

Under that box is a line that lists the displays by video card, try changing the display to the other video card. Did the display stay or revert to the smaller screen?

If it stays problem solved.

If the screen reverts to the smaller screen try chaning the screen resolution. If it changes to full screen on the display and holds that resolution after restarting the laptop over and over for say three or four days then the problem is resolved.

If the resolution does not change or it reverts to the small screen when you restart I would suggest you take it back to the shop that did the work and have them fix it again, this time ask for a list of parts that were changed. Make sure it holds the correct resolution when you log on and the screen changes. You may want to test the display by changing resolution while at the repair shop.

Hope this helps...
