Router Failed

by Albert
(Bulacan, Philippines)

My Linksys wireless router seemed to fail and I was wondering if there's anyone out there who can do the repair at minimal cost. my router stopped transmitting internet connection even if I connect it direct to my PC.and so is my wireless. My router is around 5 years old. Is it natural for this router to malfunction due to age? Can it be repaired? The problem seemed to come from the inability of the router from transmitting my internet connection to the PC or the laptop I'm using.

Fixing older hardware
by: Support

Hello Albert,

You will find that repairing the router would cost twice of what a new one would.

Why?

1st - finding someone that does componet level repair. Not much of that being done for small electronics. It just isn't cost effective.

2nd - finding the componetnts. The production of most electronic components now days are limited to 'runs' and most are used up with in two years then the design / manufactues have newer components that are smaller, cheaper, and in some cases better.

3rd - if you do find someone that still does component level repair where are they located? It may cost more to ship the device to the repair shop and back than a new one would cost.

I also have Linksys products, one of my routers (a small single port) is over 10 years old. It still works. When it fails I will buy another one.

Hope this helps...
