Retrospect 7.7 files locked,catalogs locked

by Eldwin
(Metairie, La.)

I am running win 7 pro 64 bit computer, when making a backup of my disk to a ext.usb h/d I get a catalog file locked, files locked.

I have been working with techs at roxio and they don't seem to know what the problem is. I installed retro 7.7 on my laptop and tried to do a backup to a differant usb h/d and get the same error.

Has anyone got the expertise to solve this problem?

Windows 7 / Vista files
by: Support

Hello Eldwin,

When MS changed the file structure for Vista / Windows 7 they changed how and who can change the attirbutes for a file (the read, write, modify characteristics assigned to each file).

If you have problems changing a file then you do not have the rights to do so.

One way to change the rights on the file is to take 'ownership' of the file.

When you install Vista / Windows7 the install process creates a user called 'Installer' and sets all the files that are being installed as read only or hidden. The only way to chage the read only or hidden attiribute is to take 'ownership' of the file(s).

To take ownership you have to use the explorer, go to the properties of the file or folder and then to the securtiy tab.

Then go to the 'Edit' button, you have to 'drill' down through two or three pages go get to the section you need to take ownership.

You will also need to have Administrator rights on the computer to do this change.

Hope this helps...

Monte,I have discovered the problem using one of your old tricks.Using msconfig I isolated the problem to System Mechanic 9 (IOLO) interfering with the permissions for Retrospect 7.7. I d/l S/M 10 same problem, unchecked IOLO on start-up then everything worked properly.
Thank You
