Restore Point

by edog
(ohio)

Hello,

I am so sorry for all the questions. I just love learning this stuff. I have a question on seting your computer back to a restore point where your computer was like new. If you have a virus or spyware, malware and you set your computer back to a good restore point well that kill the virus, spyware, malware or will it just come back again?

Thanks,
Bought your book and I love it!

Using System Restore to remove a virus infection
by: Support

Hello Edog,

Using a system restore will not remove virus from your computer.

It will how ever remove any registry entries associated with the virus.

Ideally you should clean the virus first (from the Safe Mode) then if you have problmes use the System Restore to replace the system files and the registry.

A better way to do your restore would to be with a full image of the system drive as on page 159 of the Self Computer Repair Unleashed! Manual . This would insure that the virus has been removed from the system.

Then if the infected file is on another drive in the computer all you have to do is delete it.

Hope this helps...
