Remove Monitor Cabinet?

by Curt
(Hudson, WI)

I have an old (Feb. 2000) 17" KDS monitor model av-7tf with a defective on/off main power switch. Can you help me get the cabinet/cover off? I find 2 screws on the back, but some kind of clip must still prevent me from loosening the cover to remove it so I can examine the power switch. I'm usually very handy at DIY fix-it work, but this has me stumped. I'm afraid that I will break the cover if I further force it. HELP!!

Monitor Case
by: Support

Hello Curt,

Some monitors like hard drives have a waranty seal. Some times the seal is covering a screw.

If it doesn't have a seal then look closly at the front bazel there may be some small covers that if you use a thin knife blade or an Exacto knife you can pop off.

If that isn't the case the only other thing I can think of is the manufacture used a design like a laptop case where the two pieces of the case mate with a clip that snaps in to each other.

To crack a laptop case see this page -

Hope this helps you get the case open.

I will also caution you that a monitor has extremly high voltage and amperage and placing your hand or a tool on an open coil or circut has the potenital to kill. so be careful...

Thanks, the case is open
by: Curt

Thank you! It worked to get the case off. Found two unobvious slots to push to release back half of the cover. Unfortunately, I still cannot get to the power switch. I just might have to scrap it.
