Settings

Hello Eldwin,

Are you talking about the BIOS settings?

If you are there are two ways to get the 'Default' settings back.

One way would be to go in to the BIOS and look for the key stroke that resets the BIOS to defauld, I have an AMI BIOS and to reset the BIOS back to Default settings the key press is F6.

Another way is to power down the computer remove the power cord from the power supply. Open the case and remove the CMOS back up battery (the CMOS is where the BIOS settings are stored). The battery is about a half inch in diamater and looks like a quater (USD).

After five or so minutes put the case cover on (leave the battery out) and power up the computer, it should go in to the BIOS setup or give you a warning on the screen that the BIOS settings have failed and need to be set, then it will tell you to press a key to go in to BIOS Setup.

All you need to set would be the Time and Date. Save settings and let the computer start.

Once the Operating System has started and you are satified that it is working satisfactory shut the computer down, disconnect the power cord.

Open case and put the battery back in the battery case. Put the cover back on the computer, power up.

You will probably get the same error that the BIOS is misconfigured. You will have to go back in the BIOS and set the time and date.

Save settings and let the computer start.

Hope this helps ...

Recovering the System Enviornment Variables
by: Support

Hello Eldwin,

Unfortunately I know of only one way to get the variables back.

That is to open them on another computer with the same Operating System installed and then type in the variables one at a time.

The only variables I change and tell people that they can change are the path statements.

All others should be left alone.

The path statement for XP is on this page:
Performance optimization

Hope this helps ...

I had thought of that but having win7pro 64 bit on main computer and win7 premium 64 bit on my laptop I was hesitant to use that method.

Thank you for your help.

*** Note from Support ***

Both systems will have the same environmental variables because they are both Win7 64 Bit.

The differances in the OS is the installed features not the OS kernal and drivers, so you would be safe to use one as the template for the other.

Hope this helps ...
