Processor Fan

I was messing with a old computer and i notice it didnt want to run. I plug everything in, it starts but a black screen. I check everything out and when i open up the computer i notice the processor fan was not running. Would that stop the computer from starting? ALso does that mean i have a bad processor or just fan?

Hello Edog,

If the processor fan isn't running when you power up the computer then it should shut down as soon as the processor begins to overheat.

(When you power up the computer put you hand close to the heat sink, do you feel any heat? If not the processor has failed.)

Do you get any beeps from the computer's speaker?

Processor fans are pretty cheap so you could replace the fan and see it that is the problem.

If the fan circuit has failed then the motherboard is dead.
