File Transfer
by: Support

Hello Harold,

First - What Operating System was on the old hard drive that is now the external drive? What Opetating System is on the new hard drive?

If the old hard drive had Vista and you put XP on the new hard drive then you will need at least service pack 3 installed to see the files on the external hard drive, previous versions of XP are not compatable as far as the file systems are concerned.

When you start your computer and go to the Drive Manager in the System Manager do you see the external drive? Does it have a drive letter?

The only other thing I can think of that would stop you from copying files from the external drive would be permissions.

Does your User ID have admin rights on the computer? If not can you log on with the Administrator's User ID?

If both of the above are true and you have a drive letter for the external drive and the Operating Systems are the same and same version I can only surmise that there is something wrong with you permissions or the hard drive is having a problem either with drivers or mechanical.

HTH...
