Power on/off switch
by: Support

Hello Gary,

The power button may have failed or something is between the button and the case around the button.

Your options:

Disconnect the power cord before doing anything!

Using a very thin piece of of metal (such as feeler guage blade) go around the button to see if anything is causing the button to jam when it is pushed in.

If this fails to release the button then the return spring may have failed.

You can replace the button with a like kind (if you can find one) there are two wires that go to the motherboard and the switch is held in place with two plastic retaining clips you can lift with a small screw driver.

Remember to disconnect the power cord from the computer power supply when working inside the computer.

If you can get the power button back out and then get computer to start if the power supply has an on/off switch you could use that to power down your computer until you replace the on/off button or use a surge suppresor.

Hope this helps ...
