No picture on monitor

by James
(UK)

Hello,

Two problems at the moment.
1. Desktop PC. No picture on monitor, only a slight flickering now and then. Problem is with tower as i have double-checked monitor on another pc. Think it is just a loose connection but would like confirmation that its not something else.

2. Laptop. Over-heating and shutting itself down. How serious is this and how do I rectify?

Thanks

James

Monitor - No display and Laptop overheating
by: Support

You may have a bad cable, bad video card, or the monitor itself may have failed.

You have a laptop, connect the monitor to the laptop, on the function keys you will see an icon that looks like the outline of a monitor and a monitor that is on.

The icon that is blank is for the laptop, the ipcon that is on is for an exteranl monitor. Press the Fn key and the key with the monitor icons if the monitor doesn't display when you connect it to the laptop.

If it displays then you will know that the monitor and the cable are ok, so that leaves the video card in the tower.

If it doesn't display using the Fn key and the key with the monitor icons and the laptop video goes off you will know that it is either the monitor cable or the monitor itself.

Repair of monitors are not econmical in this day and age, a new one costs less.

As for your laptop overheating - Have you tried running it with out the battery installed and on AC only?

Have you done any upgrades on the Laptop? Memory or processor?

Is the laptop out in the open or enclosede such as in a docking station?

Hope This Helps...
