NIC failure on startup

I put in new harddrive and now the computer works except I can not connect to the internet. Under hardware, I can not find Network adapter anywhere. Help! I have a Dell 2400.Just updated RAM and hard drive.Can I put a network card on motherboard?If so,what do I buy?Should I reinstall the drivers on it?I called company. Is an integrated LAN card the same as a network card?

Hello Mary,

If you have an intergrated NIC then it is on the motherboard.

If it is out of waranty then it is easier to put a new NIC in a slot on the motherboard or even easiery still a usb Network Interface device (I use them on my laptops all the time).

What did Dell Tech Support tell you besides it is embedded? Did they give you a location for downloading the drivers?

If you go to the Device Manager, then do a "Scan for hardware changes' and it is not there then the possiblilty is that the embedded nic has failed. The drivers may bring it back but that is doubtful.
