by Rob
(B'Ham Alabama, USA)

I have a dell latitude, it is slow during the boot up and anytime I go on line.

But with regular pc programs like word, it operates at a good speed.

How can I increase my boot up speed.

Slow boot up for computer
by: Support

Hello Rob,

Boot up speed may be different things.

It may be the BIOS has the Advanced options turned on. If you see the POST (Power On Self Test) messages scrolling down the screen at startup and before the Starting Windows splash screen then go in to the BIOS and turn off the Advanced options. (Normally a tech would turn this on to do diagnostics of the motherboard and memroy while troubleshooting a problem).

Another thing that will increase the boot times are the newer Video cards, they also have POST sequece they go through before the BIOS is released back to start the boot sequence from the hard drive.

If it is slow once the Starting Windows splash screen comes up then what is causing the slowness is the amount of drivers being loaded for your hardware. Not much you can do about this execpt try to find updates for the hardware drivers.

If the slowness is after the Log on screen then you need to optimize your Operating System, you will find the optimization steps on this web site and beging on page 357 of the Self Computer Repair Unleashed! Manual

Hope this helps...

Computer boot time is slow
by: Support

Hello Rob,

Your computer startup time and your internet connection speed are not related.

Please submit one question at a time.

If you submit a question about your network speed I will gladly help you.

Thanks!
