My Mouse won't highlight

I am currently using a Microsoft Wireless Optical Laptop 3000 mouse and up until this morning, it has woked flawlessly for about a year.

This morning it stopped highlighting though it will place the cursor and allow movement of the cursor.

I am using VISTA.

I changed the battery and nothing changed.

Hello Reg,

Highlighting is a function of the keyboard and the mouse.

It could be either one.

Try this -

In your word processor go to a line of text, hold down the ctrl key then using the arrow keys move the cursor to the left or right, the text should highlight, then with your mouse hit the highlight function on the word processor.

If the text didn't high light then it is the keyboard, if it did highlight it is the mouse.

If it is the mouse try an normal wired mouse to see if it will highlight text.

If it does highlight then you mouse is having a problem.

If it doesn't then I would say the mouse controler on the motherboard has failed.

If the mouse conrtoler has failed there really isn't anything your can do but change out the motherboard.
