Hardware failure
by: Support

Hello Michelle,

When you have an I/O failure then one of the following items has failed:

The hard drive controler on the motherboard.
The cable that connects the hard drive to the controler.
The power connector for the hard drive
The hard drive.

I would suggest before you do anything to the computer you check the cables, the interface cable and the power connecor. Try disconnecting them then reconnecting them both. Check the drive, can you see it?

If the cables are seated and you can not see it, then you could try using a different power connector. If the drive is IDE try swapping the connectors between the drives, did this fix it?

If you have a spare drive try connecting it in the place of the old D: drive.

If the replacement drive is reconized by the OS then your old D: drive has failed.

If the OS doesn't see the new drive then you motherboard hard drive interface controller is failing.

If the motherboard controller is failing I would suggest you back up your data as soon as possible.

Hope this helps...
