my computer will not start up

by Lorita
(Detroit, MI)

My computer will not start up.

I know it has power because I have it plugged in and I see the charge indicators on the computer. I had this problem before and I took it to the computer repair shop.

They fixed it, but it was under warranty. It is doing the same thing and the computer shop said that it only had a 30 day warranty for the repair that they took care of.

(Of coarse it has been over 30 days!!!)

Please help. I cannot afford to take it back!!!

Laptop power
by: Support

Hello Lorita,

From your discription this sounds like a laptop.

When you had the laptop fixed did you get a reciept? What did they fix?

Unknown at this time.

Ok, here are couple of tests you can try to deterimine the cause of the problem:

First test is for the battery. Disconnect the AC adpter, will the computer power up? Do you get any lights at all (power on led?) or nothing at all?

Second test, take the battery out and plug the computer in to AC, will the computer power up? Do you get any lights?

On the frist test if the computer powers up at all then either the AC adpater or the AC side of the power supply has failed. A new AC adapter is cheaper than a power supply so I would suggest you try that first. If the a new Adapter doesn't fix the problme then the power supply has failed.

On the second test if the computer will power up then the battery has failed. If the computer will not power up at all then do the steps above.

Hope this helps...
