mouse errors on USBtoPS2 connector

by Rob

On WinXP SP3, I have a new, clean USB laser mouse connected through an adapter to the PS2 mouse port for emergencies. It's my main mouse, and 99+% of the time it works fine, but it fails intermittently on my 3-click golf game swing. So, I have an older USB optical mouse connected to a front USB port that I use strictly for that, never fails, but it's uncomfortably small. I ~could~ just switch them except that the small mouse's cord won't reach the rear PS2 port. I guess I could buy a USB extension cord...

Ever hear of errors on USBtoPS2? Is it likely to be an unfixable hardware glitch? Or are there some Mouse Control Panel settings I should tweak?

USB vs PS/2 Port
by: Support

Hello Rob,

I have found that when switching between PS/2 and USB the mouse drivers get confused.

I have a KVM switch that shares the mouse, keyboard, and video to four computers.

My mouse/keyboard are PS/2 how ever the connection between each computer is a usb cable.

When I switch between the computers with the KVM switch I loose the mouse wheel function. I have to power down all the computers to get it to work again.

So you may want to get a usb extention cable for the smaller mouse or not use it at all and use USB only, that is not use the PS/2 port.

Hope this help...
