Motherboard power supply

by John

My motherboard has "low" power. The power source is fine, tried three different power supplies, when I boot up the PC the fan in the power supply runs slow, the CPU fan runs slow and not enough power is generated to operate the onboard video, so blank monitor?

Any thought would be appreciated.

Motherboard power supply
by: Support

Hello John,

When the fans will not spin up to speed then something on the motherboard is taking all the power that the power supply has to give.

Do you get any beeps from the computer speaker?

I would suspect the on board power converter or one of the chip sets.

There should be a row or double row of caps close to the processor, check them for leakage (if one has gone bad you will see the can has expanded or you will see an oily film on the motherboard).

If it is a chipset that has gone bad you will feel excessive heat from the heat sink on the chip set.

Hope this helps...
