Analog modems: connect to your telephone line and surf the Web! Although not as fast as Cable, DSL, or a dedicated T1 network connection, they are getting better. When I started surfing the max speed was 9k. It increased to 58K at this time. Check my info page on modems. Note: External modems require a serial port and a cable to connect from the computer to the modem!
