low sound from dell 4600

by Tony
(Paramus NJ)

I will gladly give a kudo to solve this. I have a 2003 dell inspiron 4600. I added a vidio card and a soundblaster audio card. It worked beautifully for years. Last week I tried to transfer vinyl to digital by hooking my samsung amped record player to the line in of the sound blaster. I added and deleted an old CD Dell Jukebox Musicmatch. I accidentally deleted Dell jukebox explorer also and lost my media audio control. I was able to reinstall that. My sound is extremely low even though all of the volume controls that I have been able to locate are set at high. I play through media monkey or windows media player. I have visited Dell site and downloaded driver updates from there. Help.

Audio Card
by: Support

Hello Tony,

I think you blew up the amp on the Sound Blaster "samsung amped record player to the line in of the sound blaster".

The reason I say this the line in can only take milliamps of input such as a mircophone or the sound out from a radio using a pass through cable from the headset port to the line in port.

The only test I can think of would be to either take the sound card to another computer or barrow a sound card from another computer and see what happens.

My opinion is your sound blaster is not blasting anymore.

I have an old SoundBlaster PCI 512 that will not amplify anymore either so I use is for my VOIP, works good for recording and talking with a mic...

Hope this helps...

thank you for input

Thank you Support for your input. The windows checker tells me that the audio card is working properly, but I will head down to micro center to pick up a card and try it. Thanks again for trying to help me with this problem. I will let you know what happens. Tony

First of all Kudos all around to Support, Monte and DYI. My sound is back. In less than one day after finding this site I am now sitting here listening to The Dells take me back to 1959 by hearing "Oh What A Night". Donna is next up. I installed an inland 6 channel PCI Sound Card. I still did not have any sound from any port on the card. Just by chance I plugged the speakers into my old unused onboard speaker port. It played. Not thru the card but thru the unused system. I am not trying anything else. Thank you Very Much. If you have any suggestions about transferring vinyl to digital I would appreciate it. I am going to ask DYI to submit that one next. Look for it. Thanx. Tony from Paramus.
