Hello Doyle,

This happens most of the time when a non OEM cd is used to install the Operating System.

Do you have the disks that came with the computer when it was new?

If you do then you may be able to find the drivers for the sound device on one of the cd's.

If you don't have the disks then you will need to go to the manufacture's web site and download them from there.

If it isn't showing in the Device Manager load the drivers before assuming the sound device is defective. Sometimes the computer will call it an 'unknown device' if the drivers aren't loaded.

Hope this helps...
