Logitech Pro 9000 Webcam

by Lee
(Round Rock, Texas)

I am running a Logitech Pro 9000 Webcam that keeps dying. I continue to be seen and heard after the cam dies but I can not see or hear myself or anyone at the other end. I am using a 32 Bit Compag. I bought another cam, Logitech Orbit, and it does the same thing. Bought the PC in February 2009. Any ideas?

Thank you
Lee

Web Cam problrm
by: Support

Hello Lee,

My wife has a Creative Labs Web Cam, it has been installed on two different computers.

So if your web cam display not the monitor goes black but people can see you and hear you but you can't hear or see them then I would think it is a hardware problem.

If two web cams do the same thing then I would say it was the computer.

Either the port you have the usb cable plugged in to or maybe the USB chip is defective.

Why do I say that? It sounds like the port or the chip is heating up with use. The port shouldn't heat up very much it has very low voltage.

Try this -

Uninstall the web cam software, move the usb cable to another port, if you have more than two ports try one futher away from the one it is connected to now.

Reinstall the software for the web cam. If it fails again after a short time then I would say the USB chip is failing.

If it is the usb chip is failing or fails then the cheapest route is an add on card for usb, be sure to get a version 2.0 card or better yet 3.0 card, the 3.0 card maybe a little more expensive at this time because they are just now coming in to use.

Hope this helps...
