Using Check Disk to repair a hard drive
by: Support

Hello Bill,

You can lock out bad sectors by running a check disk on the hard drive.

Open 'My Computer' find the drive you want to run the check disk on, right click, select the 'Properties' from the menu.

Select 'Tools' tab, then click on check disk. When the run box opens check both boxes.

Now if the drive is not accessable at the time (the Operating System has it locked out) then you can run it on the next start.

Another way to run it would be with either using ERD Commander or BartPE and then run the check disk.

You could also do it from Safe Mode or the Command mode, if you do it from the Safe Mode you may come up with the same problem as with doing it in normal mode. If you do it from the Command Mode then all you need to do is type in:

C:\window\system32\chkdsk /f /r

This will check the disk for normal erros and will lock out the bad sectors.

Hope this helps...
