by Susan

Hi I have a HP laptop model# ze4220. When you turn it on, it powers on, but the screen stays white.

What would cause this and can it be fixed ?

Thanks

Laptop Video inverter
by: Support

Hello Susan,

Normally when the video has problems you see either a black screen or lines in the video, how ever if the screen is white then the video inverter has failed.

It is fixable, the question is how much, and how old it the computer?

Your best bet is to call a local shop and see if they can fix it. Tell them what you have and do they know what the problem is.

Get a quote for parts PLUS labor, the inverter should be around 150 to 200 dollars, the time to change it shouldn't be more than a hour.

You could do it yourself it the cost of someone else is to expensive, see this page -

Laptop Care and Repair Index

Is it worth fixing? Depends, do you use it as a laptop (travel, work out of office)? Or on the desk all the time? If you use it as desktop computer then you could use an external monitor, there is a SVGA port on the back of the computer. In the manual that came with the computer or on HP's web site you will find the key presses to trun the laptop video off and the external video on.

Hope this helps...
