Laptop mouse button is diying.

Hi,

I have a Compaq Armada M700. This computer has a pointer device (eraser) which does appear to be part of the keyboard.

That's not the problem. The problem is that the left mouse button is starting to fail.

That is not part of the keyboard. I found a site that is selling what they call a "mouse button with pad cover". But I don't think it's the actual mouse click mechanism. (Would that be something that's part of the mother board?)

It looks like it's just a plastic cover with the buttons but with no wire or plug attached to it?

That's what makes me question whether this is the item I need. Should I go ahead and open the case to see exactly how this item is put together or can you tell me if the part on the website is the one I need?

Here's the link to the website and the part if you want to check it out:

Thanks for your help. I like your site. You have a lot of good information.

Laptop Mouse Left button

Hello Andy,

From what I see (I would have to go to the Compaq web site and look at the computer) this would be what you need. The last Armada I worked on had the touch pad where the plastic filler is on the plate.

To replace the pad where the switches are is fairly simple.

You would remove the keyboard (You wouldn't have to disconnect the ribbon cable) and set it upright againts the video screen to give you room.

Then you will have access to the pad with the mouse buttons.

To remove the keyboard there are a series of screws in the bottom of the laptop case. How many depends on the manufacture, you can locate them by matching the pattern to the keyboard.

If you have an extra mouse you could use that until the new part arrives.

(My T-30 has the same setup and I use an external mouse as much as possible).

Thanks for the resource for laptop parts, always looking for T-30 parts. :)

Hope this helps...
