Problems with motherboard change in a laptop
by: Support

Hello David,

Sometimes when you change a motherboard in a computer (even propriatary computers such as a laptop) the new motherboard may have revisions that the Operating System doesn't reconize with the embedded components.

You have options:

You can try to run the Windows Autoupdate program and see if there are any hardware updates for the new motherboard devices.

Or you can reinstall the Operating System (See page 336 of the  Self Computer Repair Unleashed! Manual )

As for the the typing in the search box, I would suggest you open the keyboard up and check the ribbon cable it may not be seated correctly.

Hope this helps ...

Laptop Mother Board Change
by: Joe Giffney

Hi David,Does the system run o/k in Safe Mode i.e.:(boot up pressing F8).

If so you may have incompatible drivers. If you have a spare drive that you can format, then remove your HD install the new drive then install windows.

If you are successful you can transfer your data from the old drive to this new drive using a USB external case. After transfer you could then either keep your old drive intact or reformat and use as an external drive.

Regards Joe
