infections in computer & also is there any software to totaly erase hard drive

by Robert
(Roxie,MS)

I am using CA internt security suite plus & at times it will say it erased what was in quartine, but open back up & it's still there, I thought CA would take care of these problems, has in the past but this 2010 version won't. Also is there any software out there that will wipe harddrives. Have tried 2 one was Dr. Watson, it totaly did not work.

Anti Virus programs
by: Support

Hello Robert,

Sometimes a virus is to new for the AV program to clean.

With that said there is a new report on how effective the latest versions of AV programs are. Kaspersky is the best and Trend Micro the worst.

You can read the report here:

http://techtalk.pcpitstop.com/2010/05/13/the-state-of-pc-security/

How ever some viures do get through regaurdless of what AV is used.

Read about a new one that Trojan Remover found but could not clean here:

Nasty Virus

If you want to wipe your hard drive here is an article I wrote for people that want to donate their computer to a charity:

Donating your computer to a worthy cause

Sometimes you just have to wipe a drive and reload the OS, here is a good scheme to beat viures:

Create an image of your hard drive

Once you wipe your drive and it is the system drive (the drive the Operating System is loaded on) then re-install your OS, I suggest you use a different AV program and consider creating an image before going out on the internet.

With an image it effectivly erases the drive when the back up image is put on the hard drive.

Hope this helps...
