Frequently Asked Questions:  (Caution: Some Geek terms used here!)

bullet What is PM and why should I care?

  • PM stands for Preventive Maintenance. You should practice PM on a regular scheduled basis. Including things like; defragmenting your hard drive monthly, backing up your data regularly etc. You can find more PM topics in the "How To..." section of the manual.

bullet Will your manual tell me how to change a failed motherboard?

  • Yes, in the Upgrade Chapter the manual gives you step by step instructions for removing the old/dead motherboard, then installing and checking out the new motherboard.

bullet Does your manual help me troubleshoot my computer when it doesn't start?

  • Yes, the Troubleshooting Chapter will walk you through all the steps you need to find out why the computer will not start.

bullet When I need to repair a part that has failed do you recommend low level component repair and how do I go about fixing my part?

  • Yes, in the Repair Chapter there is a tutorial on low level component repair.

bullet My hard drive failed and I lost all of my email, video's, and MP3's. How do I keep this from happening again?

  • You need a separate device to backup your data and do the backup on a scheduled basis, you can find more information on this in the "How To..." Chapter.

bullet Last night my computer went to a blue screen with writing on it, what does this mean and how would I fix it?

  • This is called a Stop Error or BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death), and how you fix the problem will depend on the code that is given in the Stop error. The Troubleshooting Chapter gives instructions on decoding and fixing BSOD problems.

bullet If I buy your manual and don't like it, will you give me my money back?

  • Yes, absolutely. I have a 100% no questions asked money back guarantee. No hoops to jump through to get your money back, it is usually returned on the same day as the request is submitted.

bullet Ok, you have a money back guarantee, so obviously you don't have any confidence in your book, this is just a scam.

  • Not so, I have the utmost confidence in my product. How many other authors and book sellers will refund your purchase price if you are not satisfied?

bullet I took my computer to a shop and when I picked it up not only did it cost more than I expected. BUT IT ALSO HAD MORE PROBLEMS THAN WHEN I TOOK IT IN. So how can your e-book help me?

  • I am sorry to hear the shop that worked on your computer was dishonest in their service. I strive to give you steps to accomplish your repair, along with the free checklists I provide with the e-book.

bullet What if I don't understand what your manual is saying, would you help me?

  • Yes, I offer free support with the manual, just use the support page to contact me.

bullet You said it is it is easy to repair a computer, is it really?

  • Yes, if a thirteen year old (boy or girl) with little life experience and less education than you can do it, then so can you!

bullet This question comes to mind after reading your page: At what point do I stop trying to fix my operating system and reload it?

  • It is hard to say when to reload an operating system with these facts but what I suggest is that you make an image of the OS partition and when you start having problems instead of reloading the OS and all your programs just put the image on the partition, see Chapter Six for "How to make and restore an image"

bullet You say you are giving away some free checklists, what is a checklist?

  • A checklist is a synopsis of the steps needed to do a task or job, such as what the Astronauts use when they fly the Space Shuttle.

bullet I have seen other "Do It Yourself" computer repair books and they cost a lot less than yours, why is that?

  • This Self Computer Repair Unleashed! Manual has four or more times the information than a e-book that costs as much or more. From Troubleshooting to the actual Repair, to optimization of your computer for the fastest possible speed, to how to back up your data, to how to fix a Blue Screen Of Death. It would take you years to find all the information in this e-book by searching the internet.

bullet I have a Kindle, can I put your e-book on it to carry with me?

  • Yes! Also compatible with iPad, Nook and other text readers.

bullet My computer was hacked! How did this happen? Can your book help me keep it from happening again?

  • In the "How To..." section there are charts and instructions on locking down your computer by setting the GPO's (Group Policy Option) and turning off the services that thieves use to steal your data by infecting your computer with a virus. It also gives you instructions on setting up a firewall system to keep them out forever.

bullet You have a PPS on your page that says "This e-book does not contain schematics and diagrams" if that is so then this book is worthless for anyone doing repairs.

  • Not So, anyone doing low level repair would not need a schematic, computers are modular in design, a failed part does not need a schematic to change it for a new one! A schematic is the layout of an electrical circuit. If I included schematics of every computer made, the book would be over a million pages long. The same goes for diagrams.

bullet You want too much for your e-book, I can get the same one from Amazon printed for $55!

  • I don't think you will, my printed version costs $57 and I will not sell it on Amazon, see the section under the Add to Cart button for more information on the hard copy or CD version of this fine e-book.

bullet Is there any money to be made in computer repair?

  • Depends on if you are the tech, the owner of a repair shop, or a customer. A repair tech would be paid by the hour, the rate will depend on the location. A repair shop owner can make good money if the business is run right. As a customer the only way you will make or save any money is to do it yourself!

Last thing, if you value your privacy and your data read this article about some techs that were caught stealing images, passwords, and personal information from customer computers that were supposed to be repaired. Scary thought, no?
