Icons filling desktop

by Henry
(Chattanooga, TN)

My two computers, laptop and desktop. The Laptop,Windows 7, which is a new computer, Acer brand, the screen is filled with icons from downloads of necessary programs, and the icons are too large. I would like to organize them off the screen so I can access them without a hastle. How do I get this done by myself with your directives or instructions?

The desktop, Windows XP, is loaded with viruses, it keep going off to a blue screen and give a message that i need to close the program. I can only say its viruses but I don't really know for sure. I had someone check it but he did not do a good job it came back doing the same thing. Please tell me what to do? do it myself.

Moving Icons
by: Support

Hello Henry,

If you have that many ICONs on your desktop you have two options:

Delete the ones you don't want (if they came with the computer from the manufacure they are shareware programs, that is they are either crippled or will time out in 30 days).

Or

You could make a folder on the desktop and just drag and drop them in the new folder.

My ASUS came with a buch also once I decided I didn't want them I uninstalled the programs that the icons (which are shortcuts to the programs) were for.

As for your virurs check this section there are alot of posts about removing viurs from a computer.

My opinion would be to back up the data and reinstall XP, you can find more information and step by step instructions starting on page 337 of Self Computer Repair Unleashed! Manual

Hope this helps ...
