I think my hard drive is shot

by Matt S
(Little Rock Ar)

Ok so I was getting ready to go out of town for the night and I was on my computer. When I left it was on and running fine when I came back however, the screen was black and nothing would respond. So, I turned it off and turned it back on and got a low beeping noise. It was one beep then three then just two. After those nothing happened. I opened up the computer because I have some knowledge of them lol. All the cords leading to the Hard drive look fine as does the hard drive itself. I called a friend and asked him what the beeps ment and he didnt know. Can anyone tell me whats going on or how to fix it?

Thanks
Matt

Hard drive failed?
by: Support

Hello Matt,

It may not be the hard drive, you said:

So, I turned it off and turned it back on and got a low beeping noise. It was one beep then three then just two. After those nothing happened.

You need to go to the computer or motherboard manufactures web site to get the meaning of the beep code. Search for beep code or diagnostics.

One beep, then three beeps, then two beeps doesn't sound like a hard drive error, normally the computer BIOS will not beep on a hard drive failure, only motherboard, memory, and heat errors will you get beeps.

Hope this helps...
