i have to hold shift key to get keyboard to work after boot.

My wife was reading something on internet the other day. She had her hands over keyboard. She was unaware she was pushing a key. She dont know what key it was though. Now when I shutdown my computer and restart, I have to hold the shift key for a few seconds to get keyboard to respond. I don't know what to do about this problem.
