I can't format my memory card

by Maggie
(Nasr City,Cairo,Egypt)

My memory card appears on my computer but when I double click on it there's a message appears that says "The disk in the drive is not formatted do you want to format it now?"

Then whwn I click yes & it begin the format or quick format it can't finish the format & there's another message says "Windows cannot complete the format"

I tried to scan it with avira but the scan report writes " no detections found" one more thing I can't rename it.

Whenever I try there is " invalid system label, format the drive first, you can't rename it until you format it" these r not exactly the messages but something like that.

Memory cards
by: Support

Hello Maggie,

What type of memory card is it?

USB Pen drive or SD for a camera/cell phone?

If it is a SD then you need to look at the module, there is small switch on the side that wiil lock the memory module to keep it from being written to or formated if in the wrong postition.

If it is a Pen drive and your computer says it isn't formatted or will not let you format it then try it on another computer.

If the other computer gives you the same error then the Pen drive has failed (rare but it does happen).

If the other computer sees the drive and you can access it then your computer either needs an update for the USB drivers or the USB controler in the computer has failed.

If the USB controler has failed you can buy an addon card and insert it in a spare slot in the computer.

Note: When a controler fails on the motherboard other components will start to fail, you need to consider either changing/upgrading the motherboard soon or buy a new computer.

Hope this helps...
