HP Pavillon display-problem

by Jorgen
(Denmark)

The display on my HP Pavillon laptop do not show anything except a black screen.

First I thought, that the display was gone defective, but if I connect an external Monitor it suddenly shows both displays and both displays seems normal.

I wonder if this problem is a hardware or a software problem.

Hoping that you or someone can give me some help to clarify this problem.

Regards
Jorgen

Laptop display Fn keys
by: Support

Hello Jorgen,

If your video display is black when you power up the laptop and when you connect an external monitor both come on, it would indicate that the Fn + function key has been activated for both displays.

Such as on an ASUS laptop:
Fn+F8 will turn off all displays, pressing it again will turn on the external display only, pressing it again will turn on both displays, and pressing it a final time will turn on the internal display.

The key stroke for IBM is Fn key + F7 key.

Look across the function keys F1 through F12 and you will see one with two squres indicating the video, use the Fn key + the function key to cycle though the video selections to bing up the laptop video display.

If that fails using the external display go in to the BIOS and see if the laptop display has been disabled.

If it has been disabled then reenable it.

If you re-enable the laptop display then it reverts back to disabled after a short time then you will need to replace the BIOS back up battery.

Hope this helps ...
