Opening an old computer case
by: Support

Hi Michael,

Never worked on an Astro, from your discreption the monitor is built in to the case?

The in the old days cases were put together with latches that snapped in to the oppesite part of the case, laptops today are this way.

You need to look closly at the case, sometimes a label covered a screw. To find a hidden scres run your finger over any labels on the side of the case that you removed the other screws, pressing lightly if there is a screw under it the label will depress in to the screw well.

If you have all the screws out then I would suggest you use a plastic putty knife to 'crack' the case. Press down on the side you removed the screws until you can find a place where the case will gap open, put the plastic putty knife in the gap and slide it around until it stops, this will be where a latch is. You should be able to apply pressure to the side of the case you took the screws out of to release the latch.

Now for your problem with the monitor being black, it could be a fuse (older monitors had fuses) or it could be the video card.

If you change out the fuse be sure to put the exact ampreage and voltage back in. To high of voltage or amperage have the potential to cause a fire before it blows.

To tell you the truth if you want to use it you should take it to a TV shop or electronics shop that work on CRT (Cathoid Ray Tube) monitors because the Voltage / Amperage potential of the monitor is very high and deadly.

Hope this helps...
