Help I was using my friends desktop when it froze

by Tricia
(seattle wa usa)

Whe it froze I manualy shut it down because I was in a hurry, now it won't boot giving error code BLOHD1 or b b10hd1.

It says hard disk error. Insert boot disk and press F2, what disk is that?

Why is it doing this and what could I have done to it?

I am good with computers and I really want to fix this. I am rushed and worried its a brand new HP desktop.

Hard drive not detected or did it fail?
by: Support

Hello Tricia,

A boot disk is a floppy, cd, or UDB pen drive that is bootable same as the hard drive in the computer, it will start the Operating System when either the hard drive or the Operating System has failed.

There is more going on than the computer freezing up while you are using it.

From your discription either the hard drive has failed or the BIOS has become corrutp.

Try this:

Start the computer and go in to the BIOS (You will either see a notice on the screen at startup that says press xx key to go to setup or check the owners manual for the keypress).

Once you get in to the BIOS setup go to the Storage section and look for the hard drive, if the hard drive did not intialize at power up then I would surmize that it has failed and then the comptuer needs to go to HP (you said is was new, so the waranty should cover the repair).

If the drive did intialize on power up it will show up in the BIOS settings, check to see if it is in the 'Boot Devices' listing, it should be second or third, depending on if there is a floppy drive in the comptuer.

If it isn't in the Boot Devices listing see if you can select it and add it back in the list.

If you can't add it to the list then it has failed.

If you can add it back in the list save your settings and try to restart the computer.

If you still get the hard drive error on startup then the hard drive has failed.

If the computer starts then you have fixed it.

Suggestion: If the computer will start after all this I suggest you have the owner get HP to look at the computer, if it happens once it will happen again and there is something wrong with either the hard drive or the motherboard.

Hope this helps ...
