How about bios upgrades, not many people know that there are upgrades for their video cards, network cards and yes, your hard drive that the manufacture provides for free. Not all devices need to be upgraded, not all devices can be upgraded. But sometimes after a device goes into service the manufacture finds or is notified about a defect, it is cheaper and faster to do a "BIOS" upgrade.
