Hard Drive w/win 7 Failed, want to replace drive & use Vista Business

by Steve
(Burlington, VT)

I was recently given an emachines E528 laptop with a failed HD.

The machine originally came with Windows 7 but no system disks are available to me.

I happen to have Vista Business available so I can use it at no cost so was thinking of installing Vista when I put the new HD in.

What I'm wondering is if this will work and if I'll be able to find drivers (and where).

Emachines has a site that provides drivers but they all appear to be for versions of Win 7.....

Thanks for any advice.

Vista install and drivers
by: Support

Hello Steve,

Depending on how old your Vista insall disk is and how new the laptop is will make your install easy or hard.

If the machine is older than the install disk then a lot of the Vista drivers will be compatable, not perfect, but useable until you can connect to a network and go to the manufactures web site and download the correct drivers.

Before you start check the manufactures web site for video and netowrk device drivers. Put them on a USB pen drive and have them ready for when the install is done. This will enable you to have video, connect to the internet to download all the other drivers you will need to make the OS work properly.

Don't forget to run Microsoft's update to get all the latest security updates.

If it had Windows 7 on it and worked with out problmes then Vista will work also.

Hope this helps ...
