Making an image of your hard drive or partitions.

Hi Mike

The easiest way to back up your data then restore it to a new hard drive is by making an image of the partition - not the hard drive - store it on a device you can access. Remove the old hard drive and install the new one, then restore the image(s) you made of the old partitions.

You will normally not have any problems doing your backup and restore this way because you are not changing any of the hardware that would cause the Operating system to crash. That is the processor or the motherboard.

Normally hard drives don't require special drivers to load (Server hardware is different).
