Boot Sector of hard drive
by: Support

Hello Krishan,

Are you running Windows 98? NT, Wintows 2000, or XP?

If you are running Windows 98 then if you have a boot floppy with fdisk.com on it you can recover the boot sector of the hard drive by booting from the floppy and typing at the command prompt -

FDISK.SYS C: /MBR

This will repstore the boot sector of the hard drive.

If you have NT, Windows 2000, or XP then you will need the install disk, NT came with three floppys,(it has been a long time) you will see an option to Repiar the hard drive boot sector -select this option and follow the prompts).

With 2000 and XP when you boot the computer with the CD after the welcome screen you will have the option to Repair the System Disk, select this option and follow the prompts.

If you recover the hard drive back to where the OS (operating system) will start I would suggest you back up your data, the hard drive may fail in the near furture.

Hope this helps...

Boot disk
by: Support

You need to start the computer either in 'Safe Mode' or with a boot disk.

Before you boot the computer to clean it read these two pages -

Information about Virus

Cleaning a computer

If you don't have a boot disk or external device there are four pages in the How to... section that cover the processes.

Hope this helps...
