firewire add ons

by Jeff
(Orangeville, Ont, Canada)

I bought an e-machines laptop 2 years ago. It is the D620, of their series.
It is the least powefull of all the laptops, at only 1mg.
The system will not support a 2.0 usb connection for my camcorder.
The computer does not have a built in firewire to support the transfer of the camcorder material.
My question is, is it possible to add a firewire component to this computer, with as little power as it offers, or do you need to add other elements, in order to add that ?
I would like to transfer my films over to the computer, but after asking around, I am suspect that this cannot be done at all on my computer.
Thanks for taking the time to answer, Jeff

PCMCIA Firewire and USB Ports for laptops
by: Support

Hello Jeff,

I have a IBM T-30 with USB ver 1.1 and no upgrade for the USB Controller.

What I did was buy a PCMCIA card with USB 2.0 to add the newer USB ports to the computer.

There are a lot of PCMCIA cards that have firewire also, just search for this term to find them:

PCMCIA Combo USB 2.0 + Firewire CardBus USB / FireWire adapter - CardBus - 2 ports

I found four pages of them, unfortuneately the price is about the same as it was three years ago when I bought mine.

Hope this helps...
