Factory Default Image CD/DVD Can You Use To Format A Different Computer

by Kermit
(El Paso, Texas, U.S.A.)

Monte, I know that Windows suggest that we create a ISO Factory Default Image CD/DVD to restor our Operating Systems. Information in Doing so is found in Help. And from what I have read it is a bootable disk. But can you install the operating system on another hard drive or computer using the Disk(s) and will the computer work?

Thanks

Recovery disk
by: Support

Hello Kermit,

The disk that Windows help suggests you make is a recovery disk, for Windows 2000, XP, and Vista it is next to worthless. You can only use the recovery console to do any repairs to the Operating System partition.

Windows 7's Recovery CD has a GUI (Graphics User Interface) that has five options (three more than the others) that gives you different types of repairs and a command line. The command line is useful if you want to use that to create or restore an image you have made with 3rd party software such as Ghost or True Image.

As for installing an OS with the CD why go through the trouble? Just boot from the install CD/DVD.

Hope this helps...
